Holy Week Services at First Lutheran are a ritualized meditation on the events of Jesus last week before his Crucifixion and the victory of the Empty Tomb. We begin on Palm Sunday, April 9th this year. We will celebrate the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem but then move directly to Jesus’ conflict with the religious and political authorities of the day.
On Maundy Thursday, we will recall Jesus’ command to love and serve one another by having the opportunity for the ritual of washing of feet. We also will celebrate Holy Communion, the meal instituted by Jesus on that Thursday when he was betrayed by a friend. We have services at noon and at 7 pm.
Good Friday we have a noon service in connection with several community churches. It takes place at First Christian Church. We begin in the sanctuary and will walk the Stations of the Cross. For those who cannot walk the roughly mile path, there will be ongoing meditation and worship in the sanctuary. We have a 7 pm Tenabrae service back at First Lutheran where we hear the reading of the last hours of Jesus’ life.
Easter Sunday we celebrate the Resurrection with a relaxed outdoor ‘Sunrise’ service at 8 am. We will share a potluck breakfast together at 9:15 and our traditional Festival Easter Service with brass and choirs will be at 10:30. Whichever service you come to, you are invited to bring flowers to decorate the Resurrection Cross.
