What Is a Free Fridge?
A Free Fridge is a community resource where anyone can take what they need or leave what they can — no forms, no questions, no judgment. It’s a 24/7 mutual-aid effort: neighbors helping neighbors to reduce hunger and food waste, and to build stronger community connections.
What We Accept
Katie’s Community Fridge welcomes donations of:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Packaged or labeled prepared foods
- Pantry staples (rice, pasta, canned goods, etc.)
- Frozen meals
- Hygiene items
- Seasonally: seeds for sustainable food growth
What We Cannot Accept:
No raw meat, alcohol, expired food, or unlabeled prepared items.
This helps ensure the fridge stays safe and accessible for everyone.
Why Is Our Fridge Named for Katie Luther?
Katie Luther, Martin Luther’s wife, was famous for her open table and generous hospitality. She managed a busy household, welcomed travelers and students, cared for the sick, and created a space where community and conversation could flourish. Her kitchen was as vital to their ministry as Martin’s preaching.
Katie’s Community Fridge continues her legacy of practical, joyful care, offering free food to anyone in need — anytime, with no strings attached.
