We want your experience at First Lutheran Church to be first-class all the way! Worship is a place where you can encounter the life-changing presence of God and become a part of a faith-filled community. Below you will find some helpful information on what to expect when you arrive at a service. We want your visit to feel as comfortable as possible, so be sure to contact us if you should have any questions.
What To Expect
Worship Service
Our worship service is uplifting in nature. We follow a traditional liturgical format common to what you find in most Lutheran, Episcopalian or Roman Catholic traditions. If you want to know more about the history of our liturgy and what all of the pieces mean, click here for an explanation of Lutheran worship. Our liturgy is very participatory and it is laid out in a worship bulletin, so following along is not hard, even for those unfamiliar with Lutheran worship.
When you worship with us, you will experience powerful live worship and an inspiring message filled with God’s truth and hope. You’ll also have the opportunity to pray, participate in Holy Communion, meet new people, and give of your tithes and offerings.
We are one church, committed to the experience and value of putting God first in every area of life.
Families with Children
We believe that children should worship with their families. If they do not come to worship, they will not learn to sing and pray with the family of God. Yes, they wiggle and make noise. But we believe that God made children with wiggles and sounds, and that God wants them with the congregation. We have activity bags for worship with books and coloring materials. If you need to walk around, there are two lobbies where worship can still be seen and heard. There is also a ‘cry room’ if you need somewhere a bit more private but where worship can still be seen and heard. It is located off the narthex (the lobby in the back of the sanctuary) on the opposite side of the restrooms. It is labeled as both the Cry Room and Choir Room. However you choose to participate in worship, know that we are glad to have your family here and many of us have had children that God made active and we believe that the whole child belongs in worship, wiggles and all.
Before Worship
Before the 10:30 A.M. service starts on Sunday, you will have the opportunity to park, enter the centrum (area outside of the sanctuary), meet with people and enjoy coffee. You are welcome to seat yourself anytime before the service, as well. Ushers will be available to assist you with seating in the sanctuary.
10:30 A.M. Worship
Our worship service usually lasts an hour and fifteen minutes. Bulletins are available for each service and worship music books and Bibles are available in every pew. Our services are adorned with praises and hymns that are appropriate for the lesson of the day.
Attire
People dress in all sorts of ways, from jeans and t-shirts to suits and ties. No judgement.
Listening Devices
Listening aids are available for those that have trouble with hearing. Please ask our church staff for available listening aids.
