One of the best descriptions of Pastor Tim is that he is “Terminally Curious”. That curiosity shapes his theology, his preaching, and his ministry as a whole. It also means there is no prediction of what he might jump in to next.
Pastor Tim has served as pastor of First Lutheran Church since 2015. Raised in Austin and ordained in 2001, Tim has spent his ministry helping people connect faith to real life — through community, hospitality, and a deep sense of grace. Before coming to San Marcos, he helped launch Spirit of Joy, a mission-start congregation in Seguin, and has walked with churches and individuals exploring new, life-giving ways to be the church.
Tim is the founder of Katie’s Table, a ministry born in 2021 when members of the congregation responded with compassion and creativity to care for neighbors during the winter freeze. Rooted in Tim’s lifelong love of cooking and the congregation’s deep concern for hunger and housing insecurity, Katie’s Table has grown into a partnership with United Campus Ministry — supporting college students facing food insecurity and offering space to be nourished in both body and spirit.
Tim is a curious theologian and a firm believer that something sacred happens when people gather around a table. He and his wife — a software developer, counseling student, and award-winning nature photographer — are raising two sons, now 14 and 18, both active in music and the arts. As a family, they enjoy birdwatching, coastal camping, marching band life, and finding something different to BBQ.
